As a dietitian, Jo can support clients to understand the basics of food and nutrition so they are better able to learn the facts and continue to make ongoing lifestyle changes. Jo aim's to work collaboratively with her individual clients in developing a more positive relationship with food through the development of realistic, sustainable strategies and goals. Improved physical and psychological health is the ultimate goal. Jo has experience supporting clients with a wide range of clinical medical conditions including diabetes, elevated cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure, bowel disturbances and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Overall, Jo has a non-dieting approach to weight management which involves working with people to improve their overall relationship with food and to reconnect with the body's hunger and satiety cues. Jo is currently enjoying working with individual clients with a variety of issues across the spectrum of disordered eating. Jo has a strong interest and extensive experience working with Body Image, , Eating Disorders, as well as a non- dieting approach to weight management. She has worked with the Eating Disorders Foundation of Victoria in education of school staff, health and fitness workers and coaches in early identification, intervention and prevention of Eating Disorders and the fostering of an environment to support the development of a positive body image. More recently Jo has worked clinically on the Eating Disorders Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Locums for the Eating Disorder Program at The Melbourne Clinic. This has helped further develop her experience across numerous settings - working with individuals, groups and families from intensive inpatient, day program, outpatient and ongoing care Jo's focus is upon the development and use of evidence based supportive approaches as well as offering education and support of behaviour change for clients and their families. Jo also works with other mental health conditions which can impact on lifestyle, health and weight. These range from working with clients experiencing weight gain as a side effect of medication to minimizing the impact of disease through positive choice and behavioural change. Jo has experience working with children, pre-adolescents, adolescents, adults and their family and carers. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team (such as a GP or psychologist) to support people to make positive changes in their relationship with food is advantageous. It is important to recognize that many other factors can manifest in negative eating behaviours and food beliefs and that support from medical practitioners, mental health workers, social workers and support for families is important. Jo has completed professional development in counselling skills, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness , ASSIST and Mental Health First Aid; This has helped her develop skills in complementary psychological therapies in order to assist clients to make positive nutritional changes. About Nicole: Accredited Practicing Dietitian Accredited Nutritionist Nicole is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist. She graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics and Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Science), and has completed further study in Adolescent Health and Welfare. She has an interest in assisting people with non dieting approaches to weight anagement, disordered eating, improving body image and helping people with mental health disorders improve their health and wellbeing. She worked as a Community Dietitian for 3 years where she assisted clients with health issues including Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight gain, weight loss and irritable bowel syndrome manage their conditions through healthy eating. She also facilitated a number of groups including cooking groups, diabetes support, cardiac rehabilitation, toddler and children’s diet and lifestyle groups and a group for adolescent girls covering body image, healthy eating, anti fad dieting, sexual and reproductive health and bullying and friendships. She has also presented talks about general healthy eating, nutrition and women’s health, body image, fussy eating and healthy eating for children. Nicole also works as a Health Promotion Officer, aiming to improve the sexual and reproductive health of the local communities she works with. Nicole believes many aspects effect people’s health and the way they eat. These can include personal factors such as beliefs, attitudes and thoughts, and social and environmental factors such as work conditions, income, where people live, upbringing, housing and genetics. This can make changing eating behaviours challenging - therefore, I work slowly with clients to identify where they are currently at, what their goals are and discuss with them ways to manage their diet and lifestyle which are realistic and achieveable to each individual. Working out the truth from the myths and coming up with a plan for change that is based on you; the individual client, taking into account you history, preferences, lifestyle and past experience’s- and this is how Su-Ling loves to work! Su-Ling believes in supporting clients to make incremental changes to their diet and lifestyle that can be built on to make long term change. It is these small steps towards change will ultimately lead to long term changes and Su-Ling appreciates this and promotes it with her clients – never making them feel like they aren’t trying hard enough. Instead Su-Ling has an appreciation of just how hard it can be to change habits! Su- Ling support her clients in exploring their current behaviours and beliefs about food weight and health and guides and shapes positive changes in thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours to promote lifestyle changes; as this is the foundation to achieving outcomes that are sustainable. Su-Ling has gained a broad range of work experience in acute, sub-acute and rehabilitation settings. This includes working in hospitals’ and the community, one to one with clients’ as well as providing group education. Su-Ling has skills in working with a wide range of clinical areas including diabetes management, heart disease, weight management, irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal dysfunction, weight management, diseases of the liver, drug and alcohol and nutrition for HIV. Su- Ling’s special interests include working with people with disordered eating and eating disorders, and supporting client to manage their weight without dieting. These three areas can be very different but the unique skills that Su-Ling has are in supporting client to look at the wide range of internal and external factors that contribute to their beliefs about food and weight and that also influence behaviours; she has the skills to support clients to make behavioural changes that are often key to change. Overall Su- Ling aims to empower all her clients with the skills required to make informed decisions about the wide range of things that affects their health and nutrition. Diane is highly skilled in communicating specialist advice in a practical way to people of all ages and at different stages of life. She has worked exclusively as Dietitian and Senior Clinician for the Mandometer Clinic in Melbourne, a treatment model for Eating Disorders developed at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm Sweden. The model is behaviour based and focuses on normalising eating. Through her training at the Karolinska Institute and her experience working with individual sufferers and their families she and has developed a sound understanding of eating disorders and their treatment. Earlier this year Diane returned to Sweden for further training in the treatment of Obesity. To enhance her skills in facilitating behaviour change and to gain greater insight into the counselling role Diane has completed professional development in Health Coaching, Motivational Interviewing, Mental Health First Aid for Adolescents and is currently undertaking training in Counselling Skills at The Cairnmillar Institute.
