Sometimes it is hard to believe that others feel like you do and have moved past this stage and on with their lives! I think that the web has some amazing supports in the form of blogs and on line support groups! The web can be a tricky one to navigate and not all are focused on recovery! So as I find good websites and blogs I will be adding them to the list below. Hopefully you can relate to one or two that may give you that 'pep talk' you need no matter the time of day or night!! Jx

The Moderation Movement 

The Moderation Movement was founded in November 2014 by Jodie Arnot from healthy balance fitness andZoe Nicholson from figureate and we have amassed well over 17,000 followers in less than a year!

Much of the Western world has gone food & fitness mad and our mission is to counter all the hype and promote a healthy enjoyment of all food and encourage exercise for enjoyment, not punishment. Our huge following supports our belief that many people are tired of all the hype, food rules, dieting and focus on weight loss and looking lean and are craving balance which is exactly what we offer!

It’s not WHAT you eat, it’s HOW you eat that determines your health.

Thinking Nutrition  

The purpose of this blog is to give you the latest nutrition research and controversies discussed in straight forward language, distilling out what you need to know for your better health. Written by Tim Crowe who is an Associate Professor in Nutrition within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University and also an Accredited Practising Dietitian. His teaching areas are in nutritional physiology and biochemistry, as well as the applied role of nutrition in disease prevention and management, particularly obesity, diabetes and cancer.

 

A Healthy Paradigm

A Healthy Paradigm (AHP) provides information and services focussing on health, exercise, diet and body image. AHP uses a Health at Every Size (R) approach; this suggests health is about much more than body weight or shape. It’s multidimensional and considers physical, social, mental and emotional health. It’s influenced by our genetics and by our past and current behaviours; some of these factors we can control, others we can’t. So let’s try for a new and healthy paradigm, try something shocking – develop positive, healthy behaviours, exercise because your body and mind loves it, eat mindfully (yes that might include salad one day and chocolate the next!) and allow your body to settle at it’s healthiest and happiest weight. You might just be surprised.

Body Positive Australia includes a number of different services, including Counselling, Nutrition, RIPE Group therapy, Yoga and Body Positive Retreats. We are active in the Body Positive Community and offer education to individuals and groups in the community who are aiming to provide an environment where all shapes and sizes are welcome, accepted and respected. RIPE Group is a small treatment service for those struggling with eating, dieting and body issues. We offer individual therapy and a 14 week structured group treatment program. The program is run by Fiona Sutherland and Sarah Harry.

The Eating Guidelines

(as developed by author Geneen Roth)

  1. Eat when you are hungry.
  2. Eat sitting down in a calm environment.
  3. Eat without distractions.
  4. Eat only what you want (not what you think you SHOULD want)
  5. Eat until you are satisfied (approx 7-8 on a scale of 1-10).
  6. Eat (with the intention of being) in full view of others.
  7. Eat with enjoyment, pleasure, and gusto.

We’ve been told for too long that we can’t trust our own body and its instincts; but the truth is our body has one goal: self-preservation. It knows what size it needs to be at to be healthy. It knows how much it needs to eat in order to get there. It knows what it wants. Stop. Listen. Trust.

The National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) is an initiative of the federal Department of Health and Ageing.  It is a collaboration of people and organisations with an expertise and / or interest in the mental illness of eating disorders.  The Collaboration forms a nationally consistent evidence based ‘voice’ on eating disorders.  The NEDC brings together experts in the field of eating disorders, individuals from a range of healthcare and research sectors, and people with a lived experience of an eating disorder.

Through the contribution of its members, the NEDC has the resources to provide the information to lead the way in addressing eating disorders in Australia. This is the first time in Australia that such a strategic, coordinated and collaborative approach has been taken on the issue of eating disorders.

A key outcome of the NEDC project is to reach young people and their families, and others at risk of eating disorders to provide them with  access to evidence based, consistent information through avenues such as schools, the media and health service providers.
